Don't pass hate to the next generation!
My Grandfather, Ward Raw, was the happiest man I have ever known. Even though he died more than forty years ago, I can see his smile as if he were standing beside me right now.
My Grandfather could have easily become bitter and passed his dissatisfactions and disappointments onto future generations, but instead he only passed on his love. I have been told that the first woman my Grandfather was going to marry died of appendicitis. She waited four hours for the doctor to get to her home. The doctor operated on the kitchen table, she died during the operation. I have been told that my Grandfather and a friend once owned a steam engine and a thrasher. One night the barn the machines were stored in was hit by lightning and burnt to the ground. Back then there was no insurance. I have been told that my Grandfather lost his farm near the end of the Depression. He sold part of the farm to make the payment, however the bank would not wait for the sale to go through and foreclosed on the farm. I have been told that my Grandfather once worked for the state road department. Back then when political parties changed, everyone, right down to the road worker got replaced. After one such election my Grandfather went to his boss and said, "I know I will be replaced, so I might as well go look for another job now." My Grandfather wanted to work past seventy-two so he could work and still collect social security. When he was around sixty-five his job got phased out where he worked. Grandfather just got another job and continued to work past seventy-two.
Did my Grandfather have times of great sadness in his life, Yes. Do I feel sorry for my Grandfather, No. He was the happiest man I ever knew! My Grandfather only passed on what he liked, his hardships I learned from other people, whom highly respected him.
I ask you to follow my Grandfather's example. Do what needs to be done, but don't do it out of hate. Tell your children and grandchildren what you like about other people, other drivers, your neighbors, your boss, your government. Give them the greatest gift of all, LOVE. When there is no hate, there will be no terrorists.
